Challenging market conditions were one way naamsa described the recent months of the domestic new vehicle market. Things look promising for the foreseeable future, but sales in June 2024 still fell to 40,072 units, a significant decrease of 6,531 units (14%) compared to June 2023. Overall, an estimated 33,039 units, or 82.5%, represented dealer sales, an estimated 11.0% represented sales to the car rental sector, 3.6% to government, and 2.9% to industrial business fleets.

Light commercial vehicles, including vans and minibuses, recorded a decline of 3,385 units (24.3%) compared to the previous year. Sales of medium and heavy trucks also declined, with 531 and 2,061 units sold respectively, representing a significant decline.

- Toyota Hilux – 2,435 units
- Ford Ranger – 1,868 units
- Isuzu D-Max – 1 794 units
- Mahindra Scorpio Pick Up – 829 units
- Nissan Navara – 505 units
The Hilux, Ranger and D-Max retained their respective positions for June, but Nissan is back in the top five with the addition of the Navara bakkie, which has beaten the latest NP200 models in circulation, as well as the Amarok and Landcruiser models.
