The new Isuzu D-Max Steel is a limited distraction

  • To address the delay in receiving the facelifted D-Max, Isuzu UK launched a limited edition “Steel Edition” based on the outgoing model.
  • It features a unique Steel Gray Mica paint, dark accents and ‘Steel’ badging throughout the interior and exterior.
  • The facelifted version is expected before the end of the year, followed by a fully electric variant in 2025.

The third generation of the Isuzu D-Max received its mid-lifecycle update in October 2023, but the styling and technical revisions are still missing in several markets, including the UK.

Isuzu’s UK operation is stuck with the outdated version of the mid-size pick-up and has made an effort to create some appeal by rolling out the D-Max Steel Edition. This effort includes an exclusive color, a range of Steel badging, and a rather modest production run of just 300 units.

The special edition is built on the flagship D-Max V-Cross, which is evident from the 18-inch alloy wheels and Bi-LED headlights. The exterior features an exclusive Steel Gray Mica paint, accented with a dark gray finish on the wide fender flares, roof rails and badging. Isuzu has further embellished this model with steel emblems along the profile and a striking emblem on the tailgate with dampers.

When you open the door you will see the word ‘Steel’ in several places, including the courtesy lights, illuminated scuff plates, floor mats and headrests. Equipment carries over from the V-Cross trim, with leather upholstery, a power-adjustable driver’s seat, a 9-inch infotainment touchscreen and dual-zone climate control.

There are no changes under the hood where the 1.9-liter four-cylinder turbodiesel engine produces 162 PS (121 kW / 164 hp) and 360 Nm (266 lb-ft) of torque. Power is sent to all four wheels via a six-speed manual or six-speed automatic transmission, aided by a 4WD system and a rear differential lock.

The pickup made its debut at the Commercial Vehicle Show in Birmingham in April, but premiered on TikTok in late May. Pricing for the 300 units of the Isuzu D-Max Steel Edition in the UK is set at £38,495 ($49,165) for the manual version and £39,995 ($51,081) for the automatic.

Given the limited availability and timing of the launch, it seems likely that Isuzu will introduce the facelifted D-Max in Britain before the end of the year. The updates include a revised exterior design and modest improvements to technological equipment, in addition to carryover powertrains. Additionally, a fully electric version of the truck has been confirmed for 2025, although it will arrive in the UK at a later date.
