Taxi maker LEVC confirms eight-seater luxury MPV for Britain

LEVC, the maker of the London taxi, will launch an eight-seat luxury electric MPV in Britain within the next two years.

It is called the L380, referring to the Airbus A380, the world’s largest aircraft, and is the first vehicle based on the Geely company’s new Space-Oriented Architecture (SOA).

It was already confirmed that the car will be available outside of China, where it has now entered production, but LEVC has now added that a UK version will arrive in 2026.

Suitable for EVs between 4.86 m and 5.95 m in length, the SOA platform is designed to optimize interior space, accessibility, driving comfort and range – and will support a range of large commercial and passenger cars support, apart from UK built vehicles. TX taxi and VN5 van.

Details published by Chinese media suggest that the L380 is 5316mm long, 1998mm wide and 1940mm high and weighs 2805kg.

The eight seats are divided into four rows of two, with the rear row folding and stowing and the third row sliding back and forth to increase legroom.

A more luxurious six-seater will also be offered, no doubt with the requisite equipment and functionality to rival the new Lexus LM.

LEVC will confirm all technical details next year, but early reports suggest the L380 will be offered with the same 268bhp front engine as sister brand Volvo’s tech-related EM90 MPV and with a choice of 73kWh or 120kWh battery for maximum range of 432 miles.

LEVC has confirmed that the SOA platform will support EVs with more than 536 hp from a twin-motor, four-wheel drive powertrain, but it has not yet said whether the L380 will offer a choice of power outputs.
