Porsche produces Macan EV with CATL battery

Porsche unveiled its first EV Taycan in 2019. After 5 years, Porsche has a second EV in its range, the Macan Electric. It is equipped with a 100 kWh battery pack (which allows it to charge from 10 percent to 80 percent in 21 minutes). According to the report, this package is provided by CATL (Contemporary Amperex Technology Co. Ltd.), a leading Chinese battery manufacturer.

This battery contributes to a WLTP urban driving range of more than 780 km. The Macan EV is built on the PPE electric platform with 800 V high-voltage architecture and supports both 400 V and 800 V charging configurations.

Volkswagen has integrated its ID car family with CATL NMC lithium batteries. It only makes sense for Porsche to work with CATL, given the relationship between Porsche and Volkswagen. Specific details about the CATL battery variant used in the Macan Electric remain classified. However, looking at the development of CATL’s battery technology, the following battery variants are likely to be used. CATL has introduced notable battery variants such as the Qilin battery, launched on June 23, 2022, with a 13 percent power increase. Furthermore, the Shenxing battery, unveiled on August 16, 2023, is based on LFP chemistry.
