Nio’s Onvo L60 coupe SUV leaked in China to compete with Tesla Model Y

The first electric car under Nio’s new mass-market brand, codenamed Alps, leaked without camouflage in China. The spy images revealed a coupe SUV with an N-shaped logo and English letters ONVO. The code name of the model was DOM; Spy shots reveal it will be called L60.

Nio has not officially confirmed the name of its new brand. However, the Onvo logo was leaked last year when Nio patented the name. The Chinese name is 乐道 (Ledao). Local media published a screenshot of Nomi, Nio’s assistant in the car, confirming the new name.

Onvo L60 will be on the new NT3 platform and feature a removable battery. The powertrain hasn’t been revealed yet, but CarNewsChina expects it to have a single rear-wheel drive engine. The battery capacity is also unknown: all Nio cars on the market have a 75 kW or 100 kW option. Since Onvo will be a brand for the masses, it will most likely offer lower capacity packages. Chinese outlet Autohome speculates that the packages could be 60 kWh and 90 kWh.

Based on spy images, we can see that there are two high-definition cameras on the sides of the windshield; the lidar is missing.

Onvo will target the 200,000 – 300,000 yuan (27,800 – 41,700 USD) market segment, positioned among Nio-badged cars. William Li, founder and CEO of Nio, made this known Onvo will be unveiled in the second quarterlaunched in the third quarter, and deliveries will start in the fourth quarter.

In 2025, Nio will launch another brand, codenamed Firefly, positioned under Onvo and focused on small cars for the European market. The first EV under the Firefly brand was recently spotted during a road test in heavy camouflage. It will compete with VW ID.3, Zekr X or BYD Yuan UP.

Onvo will have its own independent sales network and aftersales will be shared with Nio’s current aftersales system. Onvo L60 will compete against the Tesla Model Y, and Li even appealed to customers who want to buy the Tesla SUV to wait for the launch of the Onvo L60. CarNewsChina previously published spy images of the new Onvo in camouflage with the text ‘Better than Model Y’ on the rear window.

William Li also previously announced that the first SUV from Alps/Onvo will be 10% cheaper than the Model Y, while it will have extra comforts such as a refrigerator, TV or large sofas.
