BMW has released images teasing the next generation 1 Series. We take a closer look at what you can expect from the upcoming iteration. Watch the video below…

Introduced in 2004, the BMW 1 Series has been available in various guises over its twenty-year lifespan. There have been three-door and five-door hatchbacks, a coupe and a convertible derivative. However, with the introduction of the second generation in 2011, the German brand dropped the last two models in favor of a portfolio that included only hatchbacks (of the three- and five-door variants). The three-door model was then dropped from the lineup in 2019. The current 1 Series is only available in the five-door variant.

From the teaser images recently released by BMW, it looks like this will also apply to the next generation 1 Series. Although the video doesn’t Real Taking a detailed look at the exterior design of the upcoming model, those with a keen eye will notice that the side profile is seemingly the same as that of the current model. So it’s a good bet that the next 1 Series will have five doors. In addition, the images also provide a glimpse of the revised fourth-generation headlights and taillights.
As a reminder, the third-generation model is currently available in South Africa with a choice of four engine options: the 118d, 118i, 128ti and M135i, the latter of which is mated to the company’s xDrive all-wheel drive system.

The new model is expected to break ground in July for its international debut and more information will be shared about its specifications and whether or not it will come to South Africa.
