The Hyundai Inster measures 3,825 mm from nose to tail, 1,610 mm in width, 1,575 mm in height and 2,580 mm between the front and rear axles. Hyundai claims the angular crossover’s cabin offers 1,028mm (987mm if a sunroof is specified) of headroom at the front and 982mm at the rear, while the rear passenger compartment offers 885mm of legroom. The Inster has a claimed luggage capacity of 280 to 351 liters (when the rear benches are pushed forward).

As standard, the Inster’s 266 V electrical installation consists of a 71.1 kW electric motor, which is linked to a 42 kWh battery pack. According to the car manufacturer, the Inster has an electric range of “more than” 300 km when fully charged. This variant does the 0-100 km/h sprint in a claimed 11.7 seconds, before reaching a top speed of 140 km/h.

However, customers can also choose a long-term derivative. This model features a 310V electrical architecture, an electric motor producing 84.5 kW and a 49 kWh battery pack. Thanks to the larger capacity of this model’s battery pack, it can travel 355 km on a single charge, Hyundai says. The 0-100 km/h sprint time and top speed for this variant are 10.6 seconds and 150 km/h.

“With (the) Inster, we’ve taken the small SUV image to a bold new place for a global audience,” said Simon Loasby, Senior Vice President and Head of Hyundai Design Centre. “(The) Inster punches well above its weight, with a distinctive design and an interior that maximises its potential in exciting, customer-focused ways. With (the) Inster, we’re redefining what it means to drive a subcompact electric car.”

It is unclear whether Hyundai South Africa plans to bring the compact electric car to the country after its international unveiling.
