Guangzhou Auto Show with more than 1,100 vehicles and focus on NEVs


The 2024 Guangzhou International Auto Show opened on November 15. There were a record 1,171 vehicles, including 512 new energy vehicles (NEVs). The exhibition covered 220,000 square meters and also saw 78 global debuts.

BYD highlighted its extensive NEV portfolio at the event, showcasing new models from multiple sub-brands. These included the Xia MPV, which offers reclining third-row seats; the Yangwang U7, available in both EV and PHEV configurations; and the Denza Z9, equipped with advanced connectivity systems. BYD’s October sales exceeded 500,000 units for the first time, marking significant growth in NEV adoption.

BAIC presented its “3X3” Magnecore Electric Drive Super Solution and models such as the BJ30 and BJ60 Thunder, and attracted off-road enthusiasts with its themed booth. Vice President Peng Gang said the solution improves off-road performance through the integration of electric drive technology. BAIC plans to expand its electric off-road range to cater to diverse users, reflecting domestic brands’ push for premiumization, improved quality and value-oriented compact vehicles.

Other Chinese manufacturers focused on integrating innovative technologies. Baojun presented the Yep EV, which features a four-wheel independent drive system that enables unique movements such as side-to-side driving. The updated Yep Plus 2025 model included driver assistance functions for city navigation.

GAC Honda debuted its new EV sub-brand, ‘YeP’, with the production-ready YeP7, featuring independent suspension and chassis improvements.

Dongfeng Nissan unveiled the N7 electric sedan, scheduled for launch in 2025. The vehicle features advanced sensor technology and a powerful processor to improve driving comfort and functionality.

The auto show is expected to boost consumer interest and sales through the end of the year. It highlighted crucial developments from the past year while introducing technologies that are likely to impact the industry in 2025.
