BYD will launch the world’s fastest-charging pure electric leaf battery for construction machinery on November 26 at the Bauma China construction machinery fair in Shanghai.

Most of the technical specifications we currently have appear to come from a cell phone shot of a laptop or presentation screen. These give a maximum current of 400 amps, along with a high voltage platform of 1500 V. Being BYD, the battery is obviously lithium iron phosphate and a version of the leaf battery. The battery will be available in sizes between 200 and 2500 kWh and will have a charge cycle of 7000 charge cycles. The battery must be able to operate in an ambient temperature of -35°C to 65°C. The battery is also expected to have a maximum charging capacity of 600 kW.

The shot where most of the details of the new battery come from.

BYD claims it is the world’s first blade battery for construction equipment. The battery must also have cell-to-body technology for integration into construction equipment. BYD further claims that the battery is the world’s fastest charging factory for construction equipment.

It should be noted that the battery is the result of a partnership between BYD subsidiary FinDreams and construction equipment manufacturer XCMG. As a state-owned enterprise, it is the largest manufacturer of construction equipment in China and the third largest in the world.

The cooperation between XCMG and BYD started in early 2023, and in April 2023, Xuzhou XCMG became Fodi Battery Technology Co., Ltd. set up. Fodi is the Chinese name for BYD’s FinDreams. The first batteries from this partnership rolled off the production line in October last year. This was probably an earlier type of leaf battery than the new battery that came on the market this year.

BYD isn’t the only battery company working with construction equipment manufacturers. For example, CATL has signed agreements with Yutong Heavy Trucks, Sany and FAW Jiefang, among others.
