The BYD Dolphin officially became the safest car in Latin America by achieving five stars in the Latin NCAP crash and safety test. It is also the first battery-electric vehicle to score five stars in the history of Latin NCAP.

The BYD Dolphin is an electric hatchback that was launched in China in 2021. He reached Latin America in 2023 and became one of the most popular sellers in Brazil. Previously, the BYD Dolphin, designed for European markets, earned five stars in the Euro NCAP and Australian NCAP crash tests. In December, the Chinese variant of this hatchback was rated the safest Chinese car by Latin NCAP.
BYD Dolphin earned five stars in Latin NCAP
The BYD Dolphin evaluated by Latin NCAP has 7 airbags and the ADAS package as standard. The white body of this hatchback is made of 78.2% high-quality steel. So it’s no surprise that the car scored so high in the New Car Assessment Program.

The BYD Dolphin scored highest in the child safety segment, with a score of 93.17%. The Adult Safety category achieved 92.6%. The safety results for Pedestrian Protection and Vulnerable Road Users are 77.03% and 85.17% respectively.
Latin NCAP representatives highlighted that the car’s ADAS package was assessed for frontal impacts, side impacts, side pole impacts, whiplash, pedestrian protection, ESC, Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB) for Vulnerable Road Users (VRU), AEB City, AEB Interurban, Lane Support Systems (LSS), Speed Assist Systems (SAS) and Blind Spot Detection, which earned the five-star rating for the compact five-door hatchback.
“The Dolphin Plus showed generally good performance with a stable structure and foot space and adequate to good chest protection for adults in a frontal impact. The model also showed generally good side impact protection and marginal chest protection in a pole impact, good child occupant protection and good ADAS systems with the full volume of units fitted as standard equipped.,” – stated in the Latin NCAP release.
