On September 26, 2022, Xiaomi-backed Tianjin Gongjiangpai Auto Technology announced that they will use their experience in car customization to build their own electrified sports car, called Small Sports Car SC-01. With customers who paid a deposit for the SC-01 concerned about the car being left in production limbo, the first white SSC SC-01 sports car has finally officially rolled off the production line. The two-seater electric sports car with a pre-sale price is less than 300,000 yuan (42,000 USD). SSC plans to begin selling the SC-01 in China in 2024.

Given the placement of the car’s battery, one might suspect that the SC-01’s weight distribution is similar to that of a mid-engine sports car, for example the Lotus Elise and the Toyota MR2. The SC-01’s batteries will mimic the classic mid-engine sports car. The placement of the engine in the center of the car ensures balanced weight distribution across all four tires. This setup maximizes traction during cornering, braking and acceleration. The centralized mass contributes to the increased responsiveness.
Tianjin Gongjiangpai Auto Technology received significant funding from Xiaomi. Since the Xiaomi SU7 will be manufactured by BAIC, one can assume that the SSC SC-01 will be built by BAIC. However, this information has yet to be confirmed. Whether the SSC SC-01’s $42,000 price tag will attract as much attention as the similarly priced MG Cyberster remains to be seen. It is still unclear whether the SSC SC-01 will be available internationally at this stage.
