2024 Honda Prologue delivers 476 miles of range for $48,795

Honda has made good on its promise during the 2024 Prologue’s debut last fall to deliver the electric midsize SUV for less than $50,000.

The automaker announced Thursday that the 2024 Prologue will be priced at $48,795, including a $1,395 destination charge. It was also confirmed that the vehicle’s maximum EPA-estimated range is 476 miles.

Arriving in dealerships in March, the Prologue is the most expensive vehicle in Honda’s lineup, a title previously held by the feisty Civic Type R. To help justify the steep price, however, Honda has generously equipped the Prologue even in base form .

The list of standard features includes 19-inch alloy wheels, heated front seats, a 10-way power driver’s seat with lumbar support, a wireless smartphone charger, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto and Google built-in. Honda also includes a range of electronic driver assistance features as standard, although the automaker has not detailed that list.

The sole battery in the Prologue is an 85 kWh unit that enables DC fast charging at speeds of up to 150 kW, or enough to extend a range of 65 miles in about 10 minutes, according to Honda. There is a choice of two powertrains. The standard single-motor front-wheel-drive setup is good for 212 hp, and an available dual-motor all-wheel-drive setup is good for 288 hp.

The estimated range of 296 miles is the maximum for the single-motor option. Adding the twin-motor powertrain, which costs $3,000, reduces the estimated maximum range to 451 miles.

The Prologue uses General Motors’ Ultium EV platform and battery technology. GM also builds the Prologue for Honda at a factory in Ramos Arizpe, Mexico. At the plant, GM will build the Ultium-based 2024 Chevrolet Blazer EV, which will have similar dimensions to the Prologue, measuring 192 inches in length and a 121.8-inch wheelbase. The Blazer EV has a starting price of around $56,000.

Similarly, GM is also building the 2024 Acura ZDX, an electric midsize SUV more closely related to the Cadillac Lyriq. The ZDX costs from $64,500, excluding destination.

Honda will eventually launch a new family of EVs based on an in-house platform, and some of those models will reach the US. Announced earlier this month at CES 2024, the new family is known as the 0 (zero) series and will spawn a production version of the sleek Saloon concept shown at CES for the US market in 2026.

In 2026 there will also be an electric sedan from the new Afeela brand, a joint venture between Honda and Sony. A prototype of the Afeela sedan was also on display at CES. Honda will build the sedan at one of its plants in North America, likely in Ohio.
